ECDIS Upgrade period extention

"My CFO is really happy about me choosing the ChartWorld ECDIS for our fleet"
Superintendent, Piraeus, Greece

The ChartWorld ECDIS eGlobe G2 has been type approved by DNV-GL according to the latest IHO standards in January this year, making it compliant with the new IHO editions of S-52 ed 6.1.1 (Presentation Library 4.0.1), S-64 ed 3.0.1., S-63 ed 1.2.

The standard entered into force in August 2015 originally required all ECDIS installed on SOLAS vessels to be updated with new software and in some cases even hardware latest by September 2016. Other than ChartWorld, many of the ECDIS manufacturers, however, did not manage to get the approval yet, making it impossible for their customers to meet the time line. Hence the IMO sub-committee on Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR) just extended the transition period for software updates to existing ECDIS for one year to 31 Aug 2017.

New standards will continue to be released by the IMO incurring additional cost for ship operators. Such upgrade cost can easily add up to USD 10,000 per vessel. Shipping companies understand that not only the purchase price but also all follow-up cost have to be considered when choosing the right ECDIS supplier. ChartWorld’s ECDIS-as-a-Service proves to be the right way to implement the most advanced ECDIS and avoid unpleasant surprises resulting from new IMO rules and regulations at the same time. Keeping the ECDIS software and hardware always compliant to the latest standards at no additional cost is part of the service concept ChartWorld is offering. Please contact us for more information.
